Dr. Steven Hwang

Dr. Hwang on his inspiration for becoming a physician and his motivation to work with cancer patients:

“My mother passed away from a rare type of cancer when I was just a toddler, and although I have no lasting memories of her, she is without a doubt the reason I chose to become a hematologist/oncologist. As I completed my medical training at various academic hospitals across the country, I also always knew that I wanted to return home to practice where I grew up- Alabama. In my practice, I hope to deliver optimal treatments and novel therapies to my patients and strive to help patients navigate the complexities that are uniquely seen with hematologic and oncologic diseases.

But maybe most importantly, I hope to provide care and comfort to patients and their families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, much like my mother’s doctors did for her several decades ago. I know personally that no matter the clinical outcome, this type of care has a lasting impact on the lives of all involved.”
